Rainbow Studios has announced that its next racing game will see motocross bikers clash with off-road four-wheelers; MX vs. ATV Unleashed will combine Rainbow's various talents in one game. At least that's the hope, and we should see whether it's worked when the game ships in the States next February on PS2 and Xbox.

MX vs. ATV is also likely to include novelty racers like monster trucks and bi-planes like last year's MX Unleashed, and we're also told to expect new race modes like hillclimbs and short track racing, as well as tasks that pit rival vehicle types against one another - which we'd rather imagined was the whole point anyway.

According to Rainbow's Scott Novis, the team's own passion for the outdoors is to thank for its critical reputation which is - for those who don't bother themselves with off-road anything - rather impressive. "MX vs. ATV's open class competition, varied racing events and new off-road vehicles are a tribute to the team's desire to continuously exceed their own expectations," Novis said.
