As hinted at a few months back, top PC real-time strategy game Age of Empires is to get an outing on the Nintendo DS, complete with plenty of new features including a turn-based battle system.

Age of Empires: The Age of Kings will let you command five different civilisations - the Britons, Franks, Mongols, Saracens and Japanese - and control special 'hero' units, led by famous figures such as Richard the Lionheart, Robin Hood, Joan of Arc and Genghis Khan.

There are 45 different types of unit in total, including archers, monks, mercenaries and samurai, and more than 50 technologies to develop as you advance your civilisation through the ages. More units and maps can be unlocked as you earn Empire Points for decking your rivals.

The game features a new Combat Advisor, for help with working out battle strategies and assessments of how your campaign is progressing. Plus there's wireless multiplayer for up to four opponents at a time.

It's still not clear how the game will translate to the small screen, or rather screens, but we'll bring you more info as soon as we get it. Age of Empires: The Age of Kings is due out by Christmas.
