Mercenaries gets early Jan US launch

More than a month ahead of us by current reckoning. Which is good enough reason for us to import anyway.

Pandemic Studios' Mercenaries will be released on PS2 and Xbox in the US on January 11th, publisher LucasArts revealed last week, giving the yanks a full month's jump on the likes of us.

According to the latest release schedule from Activision UK, which handles distribution of LucasArts titles in these parts, Mercenaries is due to be with us on February 18th on both console formats.

All of which means we'll be getting our import on for sure. Pandemic's recent track record is surely enough reason to care (Star Wars Battlefront may be an acquired taste for some, but Full Spectrum Warrior was genius), and then there's just the prospect of an extremely destructible near-future Grand Theft Auto In A Warzone style scenario that sees various factions warring over the remnants of North Korea.

You can read a great deal more about the game in our past preview here, and LucasArts has also recently opened an official website featuring all sorts of bits and bobs about the game - along with a few wallpapers and chat icons for instant messaging programs.

We'll bring you more on Mercenaries as soon as someone pays us.
