New Nintendo hardware in development

Meeting expectations could be tricky - Iwata.

Satoru Iwata thinks gamers may be expecting too much from the next generation of Nintendo hardware - which is already in development.

"We are always preparing for the next hardware. We are under development," Iwata told Forbes.

"Every hardware needs some revolutionary features. This time around, it happened to be we had a revolutionary user interface. Will it be the same for the next generation? I really can't tell.

"It's natural for the current customer to expect Nintendo is going to once again do something different. If the people are expecting so many different things from Nintendo, it's going to be difficult for us to go beyond that expectation again," he said.

Iwata said recently that predicting console lifespans - referencing the 10-year plan Sony keeps shouting about - was "nonsense". The right time to replace a console, for him, is when developers can no longer innovate on that system.

Nintendo recently unveiled MotionPlus, a plug-in for the Wiimote that increases motion-sensing capabilities.
