New entries for Japanese software chart

Tales of Symphonia among them.

Over half of the titles in the Japanese software top 10 are new entries this week, according to Media Create data (translated by NeoGaf members).

Top of the pops is a new horse racing game called Derby Stallion DS. This appeared back on N64 and has apparently been floating around in one guise or another for over a decade.

The most significant new entry, though, is Wii role-playing game Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World at two.

DJ music game Daigasso! Band Brothers DX (DS) debuts at three, followed by Shinseki Evangelion Pachislot Vol. 12 on PS2 at four. No idea.

We're similarly clueless about DS fresher Higurashi no Nakukoru ni Kizuna: Dai-Ichi-Kan at five; some sort of adventure game, apparently.

Following that is Wii Fit at six, Metal Gear Solid at seven, Mario Kart Wii at eight and Super Mario Baseball at nine.

Rounding off the chart at 10 is the unusual sight of an Xbox 360 title - in this case Gundam: Operation Troy. Might explain why sales of Microsoft's console doubled this week.

Overall the DS accounted for 24 games in the top 40, followed by Wii with nine, PSP with eight, PS2 with five, and Xbox 360 and PS3 with two.

This is also the first week Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G has spent outside the top 10, by only managing to finish at 17.

Here's that top 10 in full:

  1. Derby Stallion (DS) - 148,000
  2. Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World (Wii) - 137,000
  3. Daigasso! Band Brothers DX (DS) - 120,000
  4. Shinseki Evangelion Pachislot Vol. 12 (PS2) - 55,000
  5. Higurashi no Nakukoru ni Kizuna: Dai-Ichi-Kan (DS) - 55,000
  6. Wii Fit (Wii) - 34,000 (lifetime: 2,292,000)
  7. Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of the Patriots (PS3) - 34,000 (lifetime: 566,000)
  8. Mario Kart Wii (Wii) - 31,000 (lifetime: 1,508,000)
  9. Super Mario Stadium Family Baseball (Wii) - 31,000 (lifetime: 89,000)
