Miyamoto considering 2D Zelda remakes

A new Link to the Past?

Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto is considering revisiting the 2D era of Zelda games for a future 3D remake.

Miyamoto is particularly interested in revamping games "designed with multiple levels to the world like A Link to the Past", series boss Eiji Aounuma told GamesRadar, "taking those 2D graphics and recreating them in 3D so that you could get a sense for the depth of those worlds".

"That's something that might be interesting to do," he continued, "so I would say there might be a possibility of something like that in the future."

He is not currently looking into the matter himself, however.

Aonuma has previously stated that after the 3DS' first Zelda game was a remake of Ocarina of Time, the next 3DS project will be a completely original title.

But that's all after upcoming Wii title Zelda: Skyward Sword arrives - next Friday in the UK.
