Minecraft mobile for Xperia Play first

Indie blockbuster's Android, iOS plans.

A mobile version of wildly successful indie game Minecraft will launch first on Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play phone later this year.

A wider release on Android phones and iOS devices is set to follow.

Will Minecraft on a mobile be very different? Developer Mojang has said to expect some changes.

"When playing on smartphones you will have a different screen size compared to PC, different hardware, different attention spans," a statement on Gamasutra reads. "Thus the game needs to be customised to fit the mobile specifications."

Minecraft also launches fully on PC this year. After two and a half years in various alpha and beta builds, a "finished" version of Minecraft has been earmarked for 11th November.

Minecraft may not have been released, but creator Markus "Notch" Persson has already amassed a fortune of £20 million from game sales.

Minecraft is no shovelware.
