Minecraft builds over 1 million sales

Notch another success story.

Runaway indie PC success Minecraft has just choo-chooed over the one million sales mark.

Creator Markus "Notch" Persson announced the milestone on his blog.

That's one million people who have paid €10 to play. And with no publisher hoovering up proceeds, Notch has been able to keep all of that for himself (to pay for Minecraft upkeep and maybe a Ferrari).

Not bad for a game considered to be at beta stage. That's a new advancement, incidentally - and the price has been bumped to €14 to reflect the upcoming improvements.

It's been an inspirational, whirlwind tale of success for Minecraft - a game crowned as the new champion of indie game development. That's why Eurogamer declared Minecraft one of the Games of 2010 .

"Minecraft busts just about every games-circa-2010 stereotype there is," wrote GamesIndustry.biz's and Rock Paper Shotgun's Alec Meer. "Like it or not, doff your hat to it."
