Metal Gear Solid 5 Definitive Edition spotted at various retailers

UPDATE: Confirmed, due 13th October.

UPDATE 30/8/16 10.45am Konami has now officially confirmed the previously-spotted Metal Gear Solid 5 Definitive Edition.

Due for release on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on 13th October, the box will contain Ground Zeroes, The Phantom Pain and Metal Gear Online, plus DLC and "additional Mother Base currency".

Next up for Metal Gear will be Survive, the first title in the series to be developed since the departure of creator Hideo Kojima.

It's a side-story with wormholes - here's Aoife trying to work out what on earth is going on.

ORIGINAL STORY 27/7/16 8.45pm A Metal Gear Solid 5 Definitive Edition has popped up on Amazon Japan and German retailer NetGames.

The latter lists a release date of 30th October, though this could very well just be a placeholder date, so we wouldn't put much stock in it.

But a Definitive Edition that combines standalone prologue Ground Zeroes with the main course, The Phantom Pain, and some DLC garnishes sounds more reasonable. Granted MGS5 didn't have a lot of DLC - it was mostly just cosmetic additions like horse armour and cleavage costumes - but it's still something.

Unfortunately, even a Definitive Edition won't contain The Phantom Pain's cut ending, which was allegedly shorn due to time and budget issues exacerbated by the public falling out between series director Hideo Kojima and publisher Konami.

All the same, Metal Gear Solid 5 was still an amazing game. We awarded it the rare Eurogamer Essential badge, while the Ground Zeroes prologue came highly recommended.
