Namco Bandai has announced that it's to grant a North American and European release to its PS3 exclusive Katamari Damacy Tribute, renaming it Katamari Forever in the process. The game will be out this autumn.

Katamari Forever revisits the cult series - in which players roll up everything they see into a giant ball - with a compilation of old and new levels, wrapped up in a new storyline and crisp 1080p presentation.

According to IGN's preview, the King of All Cosmos has hit his head on a planet and lost his memory. The Prince and his cousins are searching for his memories, but in the meantime, the robot King they've built to replace their regent is bossing them around, and the stars need to be replaced in the night sky once more.

Katamari Forever has a range of graphical overlays that can be applied at any time, such as a sepia-toned wood effect and a heavy comic-book cel-shading style, and remixed versions of Katamari soundtrack favourites. According to the press release, there will be local co-op and competitive multiplayer modes.

IGN reports that some levels have special objectives; restoring colours to a black-and-white level, or spreading water through a desert so that flowers and greenery grow.
