If you don't play Gothic's playable teaser THQ Nordic won't make it
Gothic Sans.THQ Nordic is mulling over whether or not it should remake the fantasy RPG Gothic and to help it decide, it's released a free playable teaser to give you a taster.
That said, it's not available for just anyone. The demo's only downloadable for those who already have a Gothic game or any other title from developer Piranha Bytes in their Steam libraries, even though PB isn't involved in the remake.
"This is not a full game. Its [sic] a playable teaser version to a potential approach for a new Gothic game. Nothing is set in stone", THQ Nordic says in the game description on Steam (thanks, Engadget). "So your feedback is essential to turn Gothic into a modern game.
"Therefore, and to reward your loyalty, Gothic - Playable Teaser is totally free for all fans who already have any of the titles in the Gothic saga or developed by Piranha Bytes!"
Though only a couple of hours long, the developer hopes it'll be enough to convince you to nag Nordic for a full version. Fan feedback to date has been mixed, though, varying from "dear THQ, please don't follow this path" and "this is NOT a Gothic game" to "has potential but lacks soul" and "YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES". Make of that what you will.
