GT5 Prologue for PSN/Blu-ray

Sony clarifies details.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will be released on Blu-ray disc as well as PlayStation Network at the end of 2007, Sony said today. We also got some swanky new screenshots.

Gran Turismo 5 will then follow in 2008, the release adds.

GT5 Prologue's retail/PSN release will feature more than 40 cars, tracks including Eiger Nordwand (from the currently available version), the London City Track and Suzuka, reverse and alternative-route versions of each and 16-player online racing with global online rankings.

Sony and developer Polyphony Digital are also preparing "Gran Turismo TV" - an online channel on PSN packed with "some of the greatest content that motorsport, car manufacturers and TV has to offer".

Today's announcement also says to expect 1080p races at 60 frames per second, although it adds that replays will only run at 30fps.

The exact dates when the Blu-ray and PSN versions will launch aren't specified, but in taking a view it might be worth considering the fate of WarHawk - another Blu-ray and PSN release - which arrives on PSN tomorrow, 30th August, to be followed by Blu-ray edition (with game manual and other sundries) on 21st September.
