GameStop admits breaking MW2 street

To "protect" customer base in some areas.

American retailer GameStop has confessed to breaking the Modern Warfare 2 street date "in select markets where other retailers had broken street date".

That's according to corporate comms man Chris Olivera, who told Kotaku, "Our decision followed many conversations with Activision and was an effort to protect our customer base."

In the UK, both GAME and HMV have denied shipping copies of the game early, despite many gamers receiving dispatch notices via email.

However, The Hut and LoveFilm did inadvertently break street after they sent out copies of the game early in anticipation of Royal Mail strike action that was then cancelled.

Modern Warfare 2 is officially due out for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 tomorrow, 10th November.
