Fallout: New Vegas speedrun sets new world record

24 minutes, 15 seconds.

Fallout: New Vegas has a new world record speedrun, courtesy of Ryderc33, who completed the game in 24 minutes, 15 seconds.

The previous record was set by, well, Ryderc33 only yesterday at 24 minutes, 54 seconds. According to Speedruns.com, the record before that had been set five days ago at 28 minutes, 17 seconds.

So why all the new records all of a sudden? It turns out there's a newly discovered glitch making the rounds that increases your walking speed by 165 per cent.

"When you cripple your leg, you get slower, and then when you heal it, you're supposed to get your speed back," Ryderc33 explained in their YouTube notes. "By quickloading just before getting crippled, you can confuse the game into giving you the speed back without actually ever losing it ( because we don't actually really get crippled). So you get a huge speedboost, and walk at 165 per cent of your walking speed."

Additionally, they also skipped the early dialogue through a mishmash of quick-saving and quick-loading.

Ryderc33 noted that this is an any per cent run played on Very Easy, which they claim is the common circuit for the community speedrunning this game.

Upon setting the record yesterday, Ryderc33 was still dedicated to beating their time. "I'll aim for saving 20-25 more seconds from this run, and it'll be good enough," the runner said. But then they shed a cool 39 seconds from that.

"I could save maybe 15 more seconds by getting the glitch first try, but it would be masochism to do so," Ryderc33 stated. "So I'll stop with that time for the moment."
