EDF: Insect Armageddon release date

Expect a buggy mess in July.

The follow-up to cult shooter Earth Defense Force 2017 will launch on 5th July.

Confirmation comes from the game's official Facebook page. That's how all the cool kids do it these days.

5th July is a Tuesday – the day games launch in the US – suggesting we Brits won't see it until Friday 8th July, but we're checking now.

PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 game Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon sees you protecting the streets of New Detroit from a fresh invasion of alien bugs.

As in its predecessor, which Eurogamer's Kieron Gillen awarded 9/10 back in 2006, you can team up with a friend to terminate giant insects and reduce your home city to piles of smouldering rubble.

Matt Hazard developer Vicious Cycle has taken over the reigns from Sandlot, the Japanese studio responsible for Earth Defense Force 2017. It's adding three-player online co-operative play for the main campaign as well as a Survival mode, which pits up to six players against an endless onslaught of alien critters.
