UPDATE: Blizzard has posted a clarification on Battle.net.

"As some of you may have seen over on the Diablo III home page, we're currently exploring a Diablo-related concept for consoles. As we've said in the past, with proper care the gameplay could suit the console platform, and we're interested in seeing what talent out there might be interested in contributing to such a project.

"To further reiterate what's posted on the home page: this is not an announcement of a console title. We are first and foremost developing Diablo III for Windows and Mac PCs, and we have no intention of allowing a console interpretation to delay or otherwise affect the release of the game.

"As always feel free to discuss this topic here, but please note that we don't have any further details to share at this time."

ORIGINAL STORY: There's a console version of Blizzard's action RPG Diablo III in the works, according to job adverts posted by the developer.

The listing on Blizzard's site, spotted by Gamasutra, calls for a lead designer, lead programmer and a senior producer for a console version of the game.

The senior producer role calls for "Experience with shipping or porting multi-platform games." The candidate "must have shipped at least one AAA console title in a senior design role."

If Diablo III was to hit consoles, it would be the first time that Blizzard has left the PC platform since the Nintendo 64 release of Starcraft in 1999.

This news might well be connected to today's announcement that the studio was expanding its office space.

Diablo III is due out... one day, and is looking fantastic, as the below trailer adequately demonstrates. Eurogamer's Oli Welsh spoke to its creators last month.
