Destiny has more than 16 million registered users

And Hearthstone has more than 25 million.

Destiny has more than 16 million registered users to date, Activision announced in a new earnings report.

Destiny is popular, but not as popular as Hearthstone. The people have spoken and they prefer their wizards from Azeroth, not the moon.

While that doesn't exactly cover sales (as multiple folks in the same household can play from the same disc), it does give us a rough idea as to its success. The publisher also noted that it was the top-selling new IP in video game history.

Comparatively, Hearthstone has more than 25 million registered players.

"Combined, these franchises attracted over 40 million registered players worldwide and generated more than $850 million in non‐GAAP revenue," said Activision CEO Bobby Kotick.

Looking at GAAP revenue, however, both games raked in closer to $450m in 2014.

World of Warcraft is still going strong and sold-through more than 3.3m copies in its first 24 hours. At the end of 2014 WoW still had more than 10 million subscribers globally.

Call of Duty is still kicking ass and taking names, especially in the US. The series has made over $11b in retail sales since the franchise launched in 2003. It was also the most successful franchise in the US for the sixth year in a row.

In a surprise to no one, Activision confirmed that Treyarch is indeed handling the next Call of Duty, due later this year. This was largely expected as Sledgehammer Games and Infinity Ward are on a three year rotation and the former handled 2014's Advanced Warfare while the latter developed 2013's Ghosts. So it was Treyarch's turn up to bat.

Activision Blizzard had a great quarter with GAAP net revenue of $1.58b compared to $1.52b the previous year. As far as the entire year goes, however, its GAAP net revenue was $4.41b compared to $4.58b in calendar 2013.
