A demo of action horror game Dead Space 2 will release worldwide on Xbox Live on 21st December and on the European PlayStation Network on 22nd December, EA has announced.

The demo is set in the Church of Unitology part of giant space city the Sprawl. You assume control of unfortunate engineer Isaac as he kills horrible Necromorphs in what's described as a "gruesome, unforgiving battle".

The Church of Unitology is an expectedly "safe" place that quickly becomes dangerous and deadly during the Necromorph outbreak.

But you'll have the new Javelin gun, updated stasis recharge mechanic and enhanced telekinesis ability to help fight the aliens off. There's also the advanced suit, equipped with jets that allow Isaac full 360 degree control in Zero-G space.

"The holidays are a great time to enjoy all forms of entertainment, and we can't wait to give horror and action adventure gamers a taste of what awaits them in Dead Space 2," said executive producer Steve Papoutsis.

"Releasing the demo five weeks before launch will not only re-connect players with our hero Isaac Clarke, but will also give them the opportunity to experience firsthand various jaw-dropping scenarios. It's gonna be awesome."
