Rockstar confirms LA Noire for autumn

There it is in black and white.

Rockstar has confirmed that its 1940s detective drama LA Noire will be released this autumn.

"We have not announced a specific release date yet, but LA Noire is coming this fall. Stay tuned," tweeted the publisher.

Rockstar also clarified that the game will be available on both PS3 and Xbox 360 after having initially appeared to be a Sony exclusive.

LA Noire was announced millions of years ago in 2006. Team Bondi - the studio set-up by The Getaway creator Brendan McNamara - is making it.

The latest word on the street is that we're in for a big reveal sometime this month, when we'll see "why it is so ground breaking, both in terms of the game's design and the amazing new technology to support it".

The problem is, after GTAIV it is difficult to make something as groundbreaking in terms of visual impact when rendering an urban environment. So, they may resort to some style trick, e.g. cel-shading, black&white, etc....

edit: hmm, now that I see it, maybe a hint in the news subtitle?

The ground breaking tech is the way they are recording the actors faces. They are having the camera face on and it's supposed to record every detail on there face when they deliver the lines. Maybe I'm under selling but all the info is in the new Gamer Informer.

I thought the plan from day one was for it to have a sepia tinged black and white feel to it.

Same as above I'm intrigued to know more about this game, totally forgot about until it cropped up again last week. Seems like a very ambitious title, not quite on the scale that Heavy Rain is on but it's in the same ballpark, story driven non-action oriented adventures are few and far between these days, here's hoping these two do well in sales and justify more of their kind.

The "interesting technology" mentioned is probably the way they've recorded the actors as Morris said, apparently a big part of the game will be interviewing witnesses and whatnot so the acting has to be well represented, this is definitely going to be one of those games that will either grab you and really take hold or not touch you at all.

"...the amazing new technology to support it"

I'm putting my money on Red Dead, I'm tired of this gangster stuff.

thanks for the info folks. I have a passion for city-based sandbox games, so I am following this one with great hopes.

Which reminds me of: .... AGENT.....?? Hopefully there will be news sooner or later

I wouldn't say LA Noire is the Saints Row kind of gang-starrr stuff, thankfully. Hopefully it will have a bit of class to it.

Am I the only one who thought GTA4 was totally over hyped and wasn't even that great dull weapon appalling car handling (not that americans would notice) and repetitive same formula misson GTA5 need a complete revamp. and I just worry that rockstar is turning into a bit of a one trck pony.

I wouldn't get too excited about this game until a proper preview is available, development apparently has been a disaster.

heard it's going to be a detective game, based in an open world, where you've mass effect style conversation wheels - all of which sounds great, and a completely different pacing to GTA

Shame it's nolonger black and white though

    It will be delayed.

I think the yet to be announced Pooh Bear Vice Squad looks far more promising than the often delayed MAFIA2(!), so there.

To be fair, they should all bring different flavours to the whole sandbox city thing and at the moment there's really no way to compare any of them. Just hope they all turn out great.

PBVS is going to kick ass though.
