Postal movie confirmed

Boll and Coleman signed up.

Postal developer Running With Scissors has confirmed that a big screen adaptation of the game is in the works - and that the infamous Uwe Boll will direct.

"I see Postal like a mirror for our society - funny, violent, absurd!" Boll said.

"So then the movie must be powerful, strange, and so full of the game's political incorrect outrageousness that if we do it correct, we will all probably end up in jail!"

Notorious RWS CEO Vince Desi said Boll was the perfect choice to direct Postal, stating: "He understands the subject matter and has an appreciation and affinity for controversy and political incorrectness.

"Postal has always been about reason and insanity, violence and motivation; Uwe Boll is simply the right guy to bring that vision to the screen."

Desi also told gaming blog Kotaku that Diff'rent Strokes star Gary Coleman would play himself in the movie, and that Boll has won his place in the director's chair despite fierce competition from his Hollywood contemporaries.

“We’ve been approached by a number of people about making this movie, but Boll was the only one who seemed to get it," Desi said.

"He really loves the game, he gets it. He gets the whole humor behind Postal, that was very important to us.”

But isn't Desi worried that Boll will produce yet another flop along the lines of his previous efforts, Alone in the Dark and House of the Dead? Apparently not.

"Postal is its own content,” he said.

“[Boll] does his own thing. It is kinda an odd combination, but a pretty natural partnership.”

Desi and Boll are writing the script together, and it won't follow the storylines of either of the Postal games but will focus on the controversy that surrounds the series. You may recall that back in 1997, senator Joe Lieberman severely criticised the level of violence in the game and it was subsequently blacklisted by stores across America. Since then over a million copies have been sold worldwide.

“I can’t wait,” Desi said.

“We are known for being outrageous. We may very well be Hollywood’s worst nightmare and so be it.”

Shooting will begin next year and the Postal movie is slated for a 2007 released, to commemorate with the original game's debut.

"Running With Scissors will be creatively involved in this film, from casting to script," Desi affirmed. You have been warned.
