Medal of Honor 360 beta begins

Try an unfinished game.

The Xbox 360 Medal of Honor beta has finally begun.

Head to the MOH website and log in to your EA account to redeem a beta key. When that key is redeemed you'll be given a token. That token can be used on Xbox Live to download the beta demo.

It sounds like a key is given to anyone with an EA account.

The Medal of Honor beta has been ongoing on PC and PS3 since earlier this summer. Dan Whitehead did some war for Eurogamer.

Beta this.

Hope it's not as broken as the PS3 version...
  • Bealsy #2 2 years ago

seem you to need to pre-order.... :(
  • richarddavies #3 2 years ago

You need to pre order to get the beta key but I don't want to pre order it without giving it a crack first. Shenanigans!
  • NimbusTLD #4 2 years ago

Surely you can pre-order then cancel it if you don't like it?
  • Mughes #5 2 years ago

    @NimbusTLD

That's exactly what I've done. Pre order from Game, got the code, cancelled immediately. Easy.

What a fucking palaver. Why not release it as a multiplayer demo?
  • justice-ste #8 2 years ago

    Hurrah! Finally!
  • DwarfyP #9 2 years ago

@mashk because it isn't a demo it is a beta.
Demo suggests it reflects final gameplay and Beta doesn't.
  • mashk #10 2 years ago

"Demo suggests it reflects final gameplay and Beta doesn't."

Except the majority of demos I've played always have a disclaimer saying ' Demo isn't indicative of final product etc, etc'

is it as bad as I've read? e.g. Fire a rocket at a wall and expect the wall to disintegrate (like in bad company, which you'd expect because it looks and feels the same) only to find that it just leaves a black scorch mark and the wall still standing?
  • Raznilof #12 2 years ago

Bad Company did for multiplayer shooters what The Wire did for television shows.

Everything else tastes a little dull afterwards.
  • CaptainQuint #13 2 years ago

Bad Company sadly got dull in the end, playing on the same handful of maps all the time.
  • Ron_Justice #14 2 years ago

yup. Not to mention the momentary freezes upon death, the kill streaks that result in a full system freeze. The general pew pew nature of the gun play.

It's 'decent' I guess, but because it's so similar to BC2 and MW2, IMO it feels like a half arsed copy that doesn't come across as well as it's inspiration.

  • rojjer #15 2 years ago

ok, thanks for the feedback guys - guess I'll wait and see. Sounds uninspiring though

Yeah, I can't watch Match of The Day now without wishing McNulty and Bunk were giving their critical opinion on the games.

"It sounds like a key is given to anyone with an EA account." Would it have killed you to check out that fact before posting? If you had you would have found that your assumption was wrong. *sigh* That's modern game journalism for you.
  • INSOMANiAC #18 2 years ago

Too true, Im pretty sure these people get a wage to inform us with news, not hazard a guess because they cant be arsed doing their job properly
  • Fab4 #19 2 years ago

From the video it looks shit. The old "lets use sniper rifles like assault rifles" approach seems to be very effective. I think I'll stick to CoD3.
  • richarddavies #20 2 years ago

Well I just pre ordered it off PLAY.com. It says on the product info that as soon as they get confirmation from EA the BETA is availiable they'll send the codes out. Then I'll cancel the pre order. I feel like Dick dasterdly
  • rojjer #21 2 years ago

yeah FYI, looks like game have stopped giving out beta codes now? Play looks like the next best bet
  • sjmlondon #22 2 years ago

Like others have said, the whole point of a beta is to try some of the game before actually buying it.

To have to pre-order the actual game to get a beta code, goes against the whole spirit of betas. I get the feeling, that despite the pedigree, they know this is a stinker and they are trying to tie in as many pre-orders as possible before the reviews come out and word of mouth goes round. Saying that, it couldn't be any worse than Medal Of Honor Airborne.

I don't think I can really be arsed to pre-order, get a code and then cancel the order. Ho hum
  • lockload #23 2 years ago

Well all opinions ive seen says it a poor version of MW2, not going to bother preordering
  • metalangel #24 2 years ago

Fab4, you continue to be one of my heroes.
  • Harmonica #25 2 years ago

It's just part of the marketing drive. I suggest the reason it's called a beta is that

    a) Halo, CoD and Battlefield have had had highly successful betas in the past and they want to be included in that same clique
    b) if everyone calls it shit they can backtrack and say that it's only a beta and not reflective of actual game content - you can't exactly say that about a try-before-you-buy demo.
  • ryohazuki1983 #26 2 years ago

A few weeks back you could get a beta key for free on bestbuy.com - just had to enter an email address (no pre-ordering etc). I saw it on HOTUKDEALS and got one, even though 360 version wasn't available, just redeemed the code and it works :)
  • Sir_TimAlot #27 2 years ago

Well as rough as it seems i actually quite like it, the feel of Bad Company with the pace of Modern Warfare, not everybodies cup of tea of course but i think i will be keeping my pre-order. Only played the mission based game in Helmand valley but balanced and action plays out really nicely.
  • poisonormints #28 2 years ago

i preordered it this morning from play.com and havent got ma code :3, anyone else had this too, or am i just being impatient xD
  • cocobananas #29 2 years ago

I had a pre-order in with Play.com, but still haven't got anything either. Probably just need to wait...
  • poisonormints #30 2 years ago

kk dude, thanks :>, was just wondering since play is kinda unreliable xD, it better come soon, ma friend says the betas awsome :D
  • sjmlondon #31 2 years ago

I've just noticed bestbuy are giving offering US customers a special edition of Medal of Honor with early eapon unlocks. Anyone know which retailer in the UK is offering the limited edition or it is even going to be available in the UK?
  • dirtschmooz #32 2 years ago

The beta was announced ages ago. Anyone with a passing interest would have already pre-ordered from one or 2 retailers to secure Beta codes, then cancel the pre-orders. To people who can't be arsed to click a couple of buttons to do that, clearly they aren't really interested in the game.

I've been playing the PS3 version for a while, and despite it's shortcomings, it isn't too bad. With some spit and polish and a few tweaks it'll be a solid, albeit, uninspiring FPS.

Looking forward to trying out the 360 version and seeing how it compares.

    Take care all

@dirtschmooz- when you edited your post, why did'nt you take the time to correct your spelling of the word"passing". In its present form it is spellings equivalant to Heather Mills' balance, whilst on acid. In simpler terms, which I think you probaly need,it looks retarded.
  • dirtschmooz #34 2 years ago

Thanks for pointing out my mistake which I have now edited.

Perhaps you can change equivalant to equivalent ? For what it's worth, your comment doesn't actually read correctly, but who am I to pick up on spellings and grammar in this throwaway comments section?

I'll go back to playing the beta now.

Oh Dear...sorry for another edit, but you spelt probably wrong too.

perhaps you'd like to pick me up on the spelling of Window Licker

getting sick of mw2 and mw2esque fps, can't wait till Reach comes out
  • Emmit_Assassin #36 2 years ago

Er, pre ordered and then cancelled from Amazon, but no key in an email. Is the key sent by EA or Amazon?
  • sjmlondon #37 2 years ago

Emmit_Assassin 'Er, pre ordered and then cancelled from Amazon, but no key in an email. Is the key sent by EA or Amazon? '

Surely it would make sense to hang on to your pre-order until you receive the code. I doubt Amazon are going to send you one once you've cancelled your order.

I'm going to pre-order with Game.co.uk tomorrow but will give them a call first to actually check that they've got available codes.

Surely they want sufficient people to test the beta and it is helping the developer fine tune the product but, forcing people to pre-order the actual game to get a code is just an crafty sales practice.

played for a coupla hours yesterday, and must admit to being pleasantly surprised. glitchy (beta) bits aside, it plays pretty well, looks quite nice, but the weapon balance seems a bit off, I seem to have more success playing as usa, and the noob launcher is difficult to range. the lack of destruction is a real shame.
  • superstu1337 #39 2 years ago

After getting AvP on the cheap yesterday it's made me realise how boring generic FPS games are getting...
  • tachometer #40 2 years ago

I can see why they didn't want to release this because it can't do anything but harm sales.
It feels very dated, similar in many ways to Soldier of Fortune Payback which is no bad thing in itself but hardly something you'd stump up £50 for.
If you want modern warfare just dig out your copy of COD4, it's still the best
  • richarddavies #41 2 years ago

Hey it worked a treat! I pre ordered this off PLAY yesterday and they emailed me the BETA key this morning. Jobs a goodun. And if the games gash I'll just cancel the pre order.
