So, stuff that's already on the disc then? This is why I can't get excited about new games anymore.
  • Zomoniac #3 4 weeks ago

This won't go down well. I quite like it though, if you're going to do early DLC better to make it trivial stuff like costume bits. I like the old soundtracks idea, as long as the pack prices are reasonable.

I believe this was what I was just complaining about in the "Nintendo Network" comments...

You negative lot! There will be bikini's. BIKINI's!

edit: such a short sentence, and still I managed to make a typo. Must be because of all the excitement. Bikini's woo!

@Kanselier You still have! "Bikinis" does not require an apostrophe.

Pre-launch DLC announcements, otherwise known as "maybe you should wait for the complete edition to come out when it'll be cheaper."

Sorry but I think it is ridiculous when a publisher announces DLC for a game before it is even out. Even more galling is when they decalre Day One, i.e., launch DLC!!! It is nothing more than sheer greed IMO and there is no reason why that launch day DLC couldn't have been included either on the disc, or if too late for that, then given away free as a goodwill gesture. It won't have cost anything extra to develop as it will have been set aside from development of the main game to be sold as DLC.

I don't know about anyone else but I've pretty much stopped buying this kind of DLC for games and instead put my money towards more worthwhile DLC. Namco can go get stuffed as far as I'm concerned, the greedy bastards!

Isn't announcing your DLC content before the release of the game terrible business?
You're basically saying "Look, our game is finished, we just decided to leave some parts out. You'll pay full price for the game and then extra for the parts we left out!"
  • hiddenranbir #11 4 weeks ago

Where are the bikini screenshots? FFS.
  • DrStrangelove #12 4 weeks ago

    Bikinis?

Come on Namco, you know what sort of costume we really want.
  • CrunchinJelly #13 4 weeks ago

Fighting games don't exist any more.

They are merely storefronts for DLC.
  • Thunderbolt #14 4 weeks ago

Bikini are nice but most of the female fighters are nearly naked anyway esp Ivy
  • kupocake #15 4 weeks ago

@Whizzo Seriously? It's three packs of dress-up items for a fighting game. I think you can live with the 'inferior' version that'll be in the shops on the 3rd.

This stuff costs a pittance and it has nothing other than an aesthetic function. What's the problem?
  • glottis0 #16 4 weeks ago

Guys - day one DLC is not necessarily greed or a rip-off. Where is it written in your book of cosmic entitlement that paying Ł35 gives you the right to play anything a company has worked on in the last 4 years? You decide when you buy a game whether the content is worth the money, and then when DLC is released, again you decide if that content is worth the money...
Do you also complain when you have to pay extra to get Aircon or CD Multichangers in your new car, even though they were already designed and the fittings are already present in the vanilla model?
  • DefendoCroc #17 4 weeks ago

Reading shit like this puts me off buying the game at all .. someone needs to explain the concept of 'anti incentives' to NamBand.

It was a comment about all pre-launch DLC not just SC5 in particular, not that I'll be buying SC5 at launch anyway, it'll probably be half the price within a month just like virtually everything is these days.

I blame horse armour for all this skin DLC stuff. Look at the monster you've made Bethesda...LOOK AT IT!
  • Schiraman #20 4 weeks ago

I have no objection to extra costumes and music as DLC, as long as it's reasonable value for money.

9 items for €2 (with music bundled in, regardless of whether you want it) is not value for money. Sure it's not much money, but it's a pathetic amount of content.

This is why DLC has such a bad reputation - because it's blatant profiteering. Sell us content at a fair price and you'll make more money (because more people will actually buy it) and you'll build up a good reputation. This kind of crap just makes you look greedy and destroys whatever good feeling you've built up with the game itself.

With this and tekken 6, namco really are showing that they are devoting resources into the right directions. I love collecting bikinis for the female characters and would much rather have the opportunity to do that than, say, have an online mode that works.
  • TeaFiend #22 4 weeks ago

And as an added bonus to all customers, this content is already on the disc so you can see who has forked out money to buy the option of using it online!

Paying DLC is ridiculous either put everything in the game, release free downloads or save it for a full expansion pack.

    Disgusting

Indeed, but these bikinis are actually for the guys.

I think this DLC may well be tailored for the Japanese.

To be honest, I am quite happy with this stuff. None of it is game breaking, and anyone without it wont feel like they are missing out, which would be the case with new weapons or maps etc.

its things like this, on disc dlc, that sumtimes "just" makes me like the homebrew scene where they unlock such DLC with an unofficial patch.

This is the kind of DLC I don't have a problem with. It's not like they're taking any actual in game content out, they're just selling some extra skins for those who want them.

I'd only have a problem if they started cutting characters/levels/modes out of the game.
  • Abdu@EG #36 4 weeks ago

    Only weebos/retards buy this.
  • FenderMaster #37 4 weeks ago

@Zomoniac Agreed, accessories and weird costumes I can live with, I'm just glad they aren't doing b/s on disc character dlc like they did with Soul Calibur 4 and the Star Wars characters.
  • super_monty #38 4 weeks ago

At least the DLC does not effect gameplay like maps that are splitting the community or worse endless street fighter 4 versions.

    Anther release another incomplete game

……...still it looks cool and yet muggins here will be a tit and buy it.
  • KanePaws #39 4 weeks ago

How lame... would be nice to just attract me with lots of content as opposed to lots of content that I have to bleed in increments.
  • byakuya83 #40 4 weeks ago

Soul Calibur on Dreamcast was awesome, one of the best things was the amount of items you could unlock...now you have to pay extra to unlock items already contained on the disc, lol. They won't be getting any money from me.
  • Dismiss #41 4 weeks ago

No biggie, really. I mean, it's not like there isn't plenty of customisation options to unlock already in the game. This is extra fluff for extremely hardcore fans that a couple of the game's artists spent a few working days putting together in the hopes of getting a few extra pence. I mean, why not. The game wouldn't be any worse or any less complete without this stuff.

Downloadable extra characters as a pre-order bonus, though? Now that's downright evil.

Can anyone remember Dead or Alive: Ultimate, where each of the characters had anywhere between 8 and 20 totally unique costumes each (including bikinis).

How I miss the days of unlocking content through dedication instead of money.
  • Ashcroft #48 3 weeks ago

This is no surprise from the company that locked a character out of each version of SC4, then let you pay to unlock them.
  • sjmlondon #49 3 weeks ago

I bet it's the same old game as Soul Caliber 4 with a few new characters & costumes.

As for day one DLC, why not just include it on the disc as unlockables, making the initial Ł40 purchase even more attractive than being seen as blantly ripping off customers for a few extra quid for content you can bet your bottom dollar is already on the disc.
