The week has just started and with it a new round of finding out the Wordle answer for today, 13th May 2024.

The Wordle answer today is CUMIN.

Initially, I tried the word 'MIMIC'. Not a bad start, but I couldn’t think of a word whose third and fourth letters were 'MI'. The third word I guessed was 'CAKES'. It took just another try to find 'CUMIN' since there aren’t many words starting with 'C' and 'MI' in the middle.

Today's Wordle etymology

When it comes to the origin of the word 'CUMIN', it traces back to a considerable number of exchanges between languages. The Old English term 'cymen' and Old French 'cummin' gave origin to 'comyn' in Middle English. Those two originated from the Latin word 'cuminum'.

Today, 'CUMIN' designates a spice made out of seeds of a plant in the carrot family. This is a very specific plant which is found in some regions such as Egypt.

With your daily Wordle completed, the question is - what shall you play now?

There’s also a range of games which have put a twist on the Wordle formula. Squaredle challenges you to find a series of words by connecting letters in a four by four grid. Meanwhile Dordle, Quorodly, Octordly and Sedecordle all keep to the standard Wordle, while increasing the number of words you have to find. The challenge comes in how your guesses count for all of the words, so you need to decide whether you’re going to focus on a specific word or try to solve multiple words at the same time. Thankfully, the number of guesses you’re given increases alongside the amount of words you’re expected to solve.
