The Tetris movie is a trilogy because "it's just a big story"

The Tetris movie is being spread out into a trilogy because the story is so big.

Yep, the story for the Tetris movie is so big, one movie can't contain it. It must be three.

That's according to the producer of the movie, who gave Empire magazine one of my favourite silly quotes of the year.

"That's correct," Larry Kasanoff said when asked to confirm the rumour that Tetris is a trilogy, "and purely because the story we conceived is so big. This isn't us splitting the last one of our eight movies in two to wring blood out of the stone. It's just a big story."

Tetris, which is known for its story, also includes blocks. Will the Tetris movie also include blocks?

"We're not going to have blocks with feet running around the movie," Kasanoff said, "but it's great that people think so. It sets the bar rather low!"

What is it then? Last month reports indicated Tetris the Movie will be a "sci-fi thriller".

It'll star an all-Chinese cast with filming to begin in 2017 in China and other locations.

Kasanoff, who served as producer on Mortal Kombat, True Lies and Strange Days, said of Tetris The Movie it's "not at all what you think; it will be a cool surprise."

"We want the story to be a surprise, but it's a big science-fiction movie," he added.

"I came up with the idea as I was thinking about Tetris and the theme of creating order out of chaos.

"I guarantee you it's not what you think. No-one has come remotely close to figuring out what we're doing."

While we wait to find out, let's watch this video of Tetris players doing things with Tetris I didn't think were possible.
