Star Wars director Rian Johnson films Pokémon Go advert

Snap.

Rian Johnson, director of the best Star Wars film since Empire Strikes Back, has helmed a new Pokémon Go commercial.

The 30-second advert is for the game's upcoming Go Fest 2020 event, which this year will be held virtually rather than in specific cities around the world.

Johnson is a Pokémon Go player himself, and has said he plays the game with friends remotely while social distancing under lockdown.

Go Fest 2020 will take place on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th July and will feature new in-game storylines, more Pokémon and a cool new timed challenge system.

700,000 tickets have already been sold with several weeks still to go, Niantic said last night, nearly double last year's physical attendance already.

In other Pokémon Go news, the game is this week celebrating its fourth anniversary. As is now customary, Niantic released a piece of artwork for the birthday, which once again features teases to various upcoming features.

As previously confirmed, Mega Evolution will be coming to Pokémon Go this year, alongside Mythical creature Victini. There's also our first tease of Gen 6 creatures, following the game's usual annual pattern.
