Sony's PS4-streaming smartphone gets a US release date

Plus a nifty DualShock 4 mount.

Last month we reported on Sony's smartphone, the Xperia Z3, which offers Remote Play functionality with the PS4. Now that phone has a US release date of 23rd October and new name: the Xperia Z3v.

As reported by Techradar based on a Sony press conference earlier today in New York, this newly monikered phone is exclusive to Verizon, where it will cost $199 with a contract.

Like the Vita, the Xperia Z3v will offer Remote Play with the PS4, though only locally as you'll need to be on the same wi-fi network or use Bluetooth. You'll likely want to purchase a $40 game controller mount for this, so you can have your smartphone operate as a screen above your DualShock 4.

Mashable's got a pic of the nifty peripheral, which we've added below. It looks a little goofy, but really functional and doesn't require you to muck about with the Vita's touchpad or screen in lieu of shoulder buttons or clicking analogue sticks.
