Sega buys Spiral Knights/Doctor Who developer

Three Rings joins the fold.

Sega has picked up Three Rings, the San Francisco-based developer behind MMO Spiral Knights and forthcoming TV tie-in Doctor Who: Worlds in Time.

According to Sega's announcement, the acquisition is part of the publisher's "aggressive expansion into the digital space".

No word yet on what Three Rings will be tasked with once development on Worlds in Time wraps up.

"Three Rings has always been a studio that prides itself on the depth and creativity of our games, we are very fortunate to have found a company like Sega that both respects our identity and shares our passion for developing engaging and quality games," commented CEO Daniel James.

"We are honored to be joining such a legendary team and look forward to collaborating on amazing ideas together."
