Rocksmith DLC comes to an end as dev moves on to new project

Encore.

The developer of Rocksmith has moved into a new project.

DLC for Ubisoft's guitar-teaching game has now come to an end, Ubisoft San Francisco announced in a blog post.

Rocksmith, which lets you plug in pretty much any electric guitar and play, launched in October 2011 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, with a PC release in 2012. A sequel, dubbed Rocksmith 2014, came out in 2013. Our Ian Higton had a strum on that, which you can see in the video below.

DLC for Rocksmith ends after 383 weeks of releases, and with 1570 songs in the Rocksmith library. "For over a decade, we've watched players learn, grow, and constantly surprise us with your talent, creativity, and eagerness to help one another reach your goals. We truly could not be more proud to play a part in this guitar journey with you," the team said.

While weekly online content of some description is planned for Rocksmith, no new DLC will be released. There's no word on what Ubisoft San Francisco's new project is, but it sounds like it will be in the music game genre.

"Your continued support of Rocksmith is humbling, and we can't wait to start the next leg of our music learning journey together," Ubisoft San Francisco said.
