Nintendo's final Wii U game, Project Giant Robot, has been cancelled

We're not gonna mech it.

Back at E3 2014 Nintendo demoed a couple of quirky experimental games designed for its fledgling Wii U hardware: Project Guard and Project Giant Robot. The former was turned into Star Fox: Guard while the latter was still on track for an eventual release as of October, but now it seems that's no longer the case.

Nintendo confirmed the game's cancellation to Polygon. "We made this decision after considering our overall product and development strategy," the developer stated.

This tracks with the recent confirmation that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild would be the last game Nintendo produces for the Wii U.

The peculiar project was going to let players control a giant robot by using the Wii U Gamepad's motion controls to balance its torso while the analogue sticks would be used to throw punches. The goal would be to knock your opponent over. Meanwhile, the bottom screen would portray the physics-based brawler in first-person from the robot's cockpit.
