Midway's Fear & Respect unveiled

Midway N the Hood with John Singleton collaborating on this LA-based crime fest.

With Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas just over a month away, Midway has announced plans to release its own criminal third-person title set in Los Angeles, and has tapped film director John Singleton - the man behind Boys N the Hood, to which San Andreas seems to owe quite a bit - to collaborate on the project.

Fear & Respect is due out at the end of 2005 on PlayStation 2 and Xbox, and will see a retired gangster returning from prison to his home in South Central Los Angeles, where he's reluctantly forced back into a life of crime. And although Midway is keeping details to itself for now, we do know that certain choices you make will be reflected in the way people treat you. "With fear - or with respect."

Last week Midway said it plans to make more announcements about Fear & Respect in early 2005, but that hasn't stopped Paramount Pictures leaping in to snap up the film rights, having also recently optioned Midway's paranormal adventure Area 51.
