Resi Outbreak seeks US beta testers

But still questions remain over online plans in Europe.

Sony in the States has begun notifying beta testers for Resident Evil Outbreak, with discs expected to go out to them around about January 22nd, a number of those involved with the closed test have revealed this week. The news suggests Outbreak is still on track for its March 30th release date across the pond.

Over here however it's another matter entirely. Back at ECTS last year when we took a look at the game, producer Tanaka-san told us "There are still plans for online for PAL, but we're considering releasing it offline. It depends on SCEE, because the [network] system is very different [compared to Japan or the US]."

Although Sony would dearly like Capcom to release Resident Evil Outbreak with online support in Europe, nobody's sure at the moment whether it'll happen, or whether Capcom will have to rely on the planned offline release of the game in late 2004. We'll be sure to keep you updated, and to let you know if we have any luck getting the US Outbreak to work online using our modded PlayStation 2.

Assuming Customs lets the package through - it should have the Onimusha 3 katana sword in it too.
