Rome: Total War exp pack

An add-on for the historical PC strategy game that's sort of like Time Commanders, but with less estate agents getting angry.

Development studio Creative Assembly is hard at work on an add-on for its top-selling historical epic Rome: Total War, according to PC Zone magazine.

Rome: Total War - Barbarian Invasion is set between 364AD and 476AD, one of the most troubled periods in Roman history. Having spent, ooh, ages building up their empire, inventing politics, constructing acqueducts and the like, the Romans found themselves fending off floods of Barbarian hordes and trying to keep the whole thing together. And failing, eventually.

You can choose which side to join, and your mission objectives will vary accordingly. Playable Barbarian tribes include the Huns, the Saxons and the Vandals, each with their own unique characteristics and strategy options.

There's plenty more units and weapons to play with - all historically accurate, naturally - and a new feature which allows you to launch moonlight attacks on your enemies. It all comes together with the game's superb combat AI, designed to stretch your military planning skills to the limit.

There's no release date yet, but we're hoping to see more of Rome: Total War - Barbarian Invasion at E3.
