Battlestations: Midway delayed

It's out next year now.

Eidos has announced that PC and Xbox 360 title Battlestations: Midway, which was originally due out this autumn, is now down for a 2007 release.

The game follows the adventure of a young naval recruit by the name of Henry Walker. You'll start out as a gunner at Pearl Harbor, but as the game progresses you'll get to relive all manner of WWII air, sea and underwater battles.

You can take direct control of aircraft, subs and warships - so instead of just telling units where to go, you can steer them yourself. And it's entirely up to you which strategies and tactics you use, since you have the freedom of the whole battlefield. In short, it's a great big RTS-action combo platter.

Most of the missions are based on real historical events, although the development team has taken a bit of licence here and there. That doesn't mean you can expect giant enemy crabs though, sadly.

Up to 16 players can take part in battles over Xbox Live, and you'll be able to chat to your teammates via headset. Downloadable maps are promised, too.

Eidos has yet to announce exactly when Battleships: Midway will hit the shops - but a little birdie tells us it'll be here by spring.
