Microsoft will expand its $99 4GB Xbox 360 offer to more US stores, the company has announced.

The offer, previously limited to Microsoft's own stores, will now be expanded to major US chain Best Buy and select GameStop outlets.

This next phase of the pilot program will be available for a limited time only, Microsoft mouthpiece Major "Larry Hryb" Nelson explained.

The $99 price is supplemented by an additional $14.99 monthly subscription fee, which lasts for two years.

The deal eventually adds up to a total price of $458.76 - marginally more expensive than buying the console at full price and independently signing up for Xbox Live.

Microsoft has yet to indicate whether a similar deal will be offered in Europe.
