Mega Man is getting a new animated TV series

By the folks behind Ben 10. Will premiere in 2017.

Mega Man is getting its own cartoon series, Capcom has announced.

The 90s Mega Man cartoon was kind of weird.

A 26-episode season will be developed by Man of Action Entertainment, the studio behind Ben 10, Generator Rex and the Big Hero 6 comic.

Unfortunately, the new Mega Man cartoon won't debut until 2017.

The show is being published by Dentsu Entertainment USA, an ad agency that also produces Japanese animation.

This won't be the first Mega Man animated series, however. There was a cartoon based on him that ran for two seasons from 1994-1995. The Man of Action crew seemed fond of it though.

"The 1990s Mega Man TV series was cool and different than other series targeted at kids during that time. It featured great action, but also brought the laughs," said Man of Action's Duncan Rouleau. "Mega Man is a character that is even more relevant for today's kids and we are really looking forward to creating something new that still respects the long tradition of the character."

Mega Man has spawned over 130 video games across multiple consoles since the Blue Bomber first appeared in 1987. Over 30m copies of Mega Man games have been sold worldwide in that time.

Mega Man has been in something of a funk lately with his creator, Keiji Inafune, having left Capcom to crowdfund Mighty No. 9, a game that looks and sounds like Mega Man, but isn't actually Mega Man
