Kingdom Hearts 3D finished early 2012

HD anniversary update planned.

Square Enix is aiming to finish Kingdom Hearts 3D in early 2012, series director Tetsuya Nomura has announced.

Nomura hopes KH3D development will be complete "as soon as possible following the start of the new year," according to Dengeki PlayStation (translated by Andriasang).

Additional plans are afoot for at least one Kingdom Hearts game to get an HD update, in time for the series' 10th anniversary in 2012. With KH3D the seventh instalment in the RPG series, Nomura hopes such an update would welcome new players to the story - something he admits is now proving more difficult.

Development on KH3D is nearing completion, with a playable build of KH3D will be shown off at Tokyo Games Show in September. Nomura has high hopes for the title, stating its quality was already "at the level of a console game".

Nomura himself is currently overseeing an array of Square Enix projects. He's director of Final Fantasy Versus XIII and a creative producer for fellow upcoming 3DS title Final Fantasy: Theatrhythm, a rhythm game featuring music from the Final Fantasy series.

Theatrhythm will be the "first" Final Fantasy 25th anniversary game, Nomura commented, suggesting more are yet to be announced.
