iPhone 5 reveal next week?

Apple sends out media briefing invites.

Apple has announced a major press event for Tuesday 4th October, suggesting the iPhone 5 reveal could finally be upon us.

According to Ars Technica, it'll be hosted by new Apple CEO Tim Cook and kicks off at 8pm UK time.

Invitations to the event didn't offer any concrete info on what to expect, but read "Let's talk phone". Could be an oblique clue there.

The announcement backs up a report last week, which added that the device will be available in shops just a few weeks after the event.

The myriad rumours surrounding Apple's new phone suggest it will include the iPad 2's speedy A5 chip, an 8MP camera and improved messaging features.
