Hohokum dev reveals online roguelike Loot Rascals for PS4 and PC

Steal goods from other fallen players, then be haunted by their ghosts.

Hohokum, Super Exploding Zoo, and Frosbisher Says developer Ricky Haggett has announced an upcoming PS4 and PC title called Loot Rascals.

The debut effort of Haggett's new studio Hollow Ponds, Loot Rascals is a procedurally-generated roguelike set on an alien planet where players move about a hexagonal plain collecting cards and battling monsters. Defeating foes rewards players with Loot Chips - i.e. cards - dictating their abilities. Players will have to assemble their deck as they see fit and convert the cards they don't want into currency.

Now here's where it gets interesting: Getting a game-over results in your corpse being looted by enemies. Once your cadaver has been stripped clean, your Loot Chips will appear on their new owners in another player's game. Big baddies will only carry Loot Chips from other players and they'll only snag the best gear.

The twist is that players can decide whether they want to equip the hot goods for themselves, or send them back to their original owner. Take the greedy option and you may find yourself facing off against an AI controlled phantom of the player whose loot you've acquired. But send it back to its rightful owner and you may be aided by a benevolent Hologram of them.

Loot Rascals is aiming for an early 2017 release. You can see how it looks in action in the trailer below:
