Embattled high street chain HMV has suspended trading online via HMV.com following the appointment of administrators.

The website has been replaced by a notice from administration firm Deloitte, informing customers that "no purchases can be made online until further notice".

It follows a move yesterday to suspend the sale and redemption of gift vouchers.

HMV told Eurogamer yesterday that it hoped to re-emerge from the current crisis in some form.

"We don't see this as a final chapter; we still believe there is a future. It might have to be a slightly different future, but one we can still try to achieve, so we're working hard to make that happen," HMV spokesperson Gennaro Castaldo said.

All HMV stores currently remain open for trading.

HMV's 4350 staff were informed about the the firm's fall into administration yesterday morning, although many had already discovered their employer's fate from news reports the previous night.

Latest release DmC Devil May Cry is being stocked as usual in HMV stores, publisher Capcom confirmed, although other publishers were unable to comment on the availability of future titles.
