Five Nights at Freddy's is being adapted into a movie - report

Can you bear to watch it?

Recent horror cult hit Five Nights at Freddy's is being adapted into a feature film.

The trio of producers are currently collaborating on an upcoming adaptation of Stephen King's It.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. has picked up the film rights for the property about possessed animatronic animals haunting a children's pizza place after hours.

The movie will be produced by Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter scribe Seth Grahame-Smith along with his studio partner at KatzSmith Productions, David Katzenberg. The pair are currently developing a Beetlejuice sequel. Vertigo Entertainment's Roy Lee (The Departed, The Lego Movie) is also producing.

The project is currently seeking screenwriters.

"The story really lends itself to being a movie and it taps into a largely unexplored niche of horror that a lot of people will be able to relate to," said Five Night at Freddy's creator Scott Cawthon.

Indeed, being afraid of animatronic animal people at abandoned children's restaurants is a universal fear.

"We're looking forward to working with Scott to make an insane, terrifying and weirdly adorable movie," added Grahame-Smith.

There's no telling whether this picture will actually see the light of day, but it's certainly an out-of-left field property to pick up given that the series was made by one guy and only premiered last summer.
