Don't expect The Last of Us or Uncharted movies any time soon

Arya really that surprised?

The Last of Us and Uncharted's film adaptations are both stuck in development hell.

Last year, developer Naughty Dog made some promising noises about The Last of Us' film project - it had a script from creative director Neil Druckmann and several actors on board.

Game of Thrones' Arya Stark - aka actress Maisie Williams - was all but officially announced as Ellie. A table read of the script had even taken place, Druckmann had said.

Now? It sounds like Naughty Dog and Druckmann's focus is entirely on getting Uncharted 4 out the door.

"It kind of entered development hell like these things tend to do," Druckmann told IGN. "There hasn't been any work done on it in over a year and a half."

As for the Uncharted movie adaptation, which Sony ambitiously still has down for a 30th June 2017 release date? It sounds like even less is happening.

"Every once in a while [Sony] will come in and they'll present to us: here's the script, here's what we're thinking," Druckmann continued. "We'll tell them what we think works, what we think doesn't work. That's where we're at.

"Last I heard is they got a new screenwriter, but we haven't seen anything in a while."

If a movie ever does get made, he concluded, it should focus on the relationship between the series' three major characters of Nathan Drake, Sully and Elena.

"If you don't get that right, I don't think the film's going to work. If you get that core right, there's a chance it could work."

He sounds convinced.

On the bright side, neither film is being rushed.
