CODCon: Call of Duty XP event announced

12-acres! Maps made real! MW3! COD Elite!

Call of Duty has a big enough fan following to warrant an expo, a fanfest, a CODCon. So that's what Activision is doing.

Say hello to Call of Duty XP, a two-day event at a 12-ace compound in Los Angeles, America. Call of Duty XP takes place on 2nd and 3rd September.

Tickets cost $150, and there are a modest 6000 of them. They go on sale from 19th July, and can be snapped up by people outside the US and Canada as well as from within.

Only two-day passes are available, and you must be over 18 to attend.

All money from ticket sales goes to the Call of Duty: Endowment charity that helps war veterans readjust to civilian life.

The huge 12-acre compound will allow Activision space to recreate the atmosphere of the war series. Activision will even go as far as replicating game map Scrapyard as a real-life paintball arena. Game map The Pit will be built as a timed assault course, too. Attendees will even be able to eat at the Burger Town fast food joint from the game.

There will be an extensive armoury on site showcasing the real-life weapons of the Call of Duty series.

Activision will also whip the wrappers off Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer the XP event, and give full disclosure on what Call of Duty: Elite can do.

Those of you good enough are encouraged to enter a Black Ops four-player tournament with a prize purse of $1 million. There will be other less high-stake competitions to enter as well.

On top of that there will be conferences, keynotes, developer panels, music performances and maybe some dressing up.

Microsoft's signed Xbox 360 as the exclusive console partner of the event, and so it will be streamed on Xbox Live. You can also catch it on YouTube and through places like Facebook and even Twitter.

Activision's other half, Blizzard, already operates the annual BlizzCon fan festival bonanza. Apparently the experience of putting that on will carry across.
