You'd get long odds, but much-anticipated action RPG sequel Diablo III might just see the light of day before the year is out, developer Blizzard has announced.

When asked by Kotaku if a 2011 release was on the cards, Blizzard VP and World of Warcraft lynchpin Rob Pardo offered a slither of hope.

"We really, really hope so. That's our goal," he explained.

"Our goal is to get there. But you know, at the end of the day, we are going to get it right. That's more important."

"We're going to promise, we're going to get it out there when it's awesome. And, we're crossing our fingers, maybe it will be this year."

Earlier this week Activision-Blizzard CFO Thomas Tippl confirmed that, in the event that a new Blizzard game didn't make it out this year, there would be at least two titles on shelves by the end of 2012.
