2K Sports has made good on the rumours and announced Michael Jordan as the cover athlete of NBA 2K11.

He'll also appear as a character in the game.

"It's an honour to be featured on the cover of NBA 2K11," said the retired basketball legend and current majority owner of the Charlotte Bobcats. "I have no doubt that NBA 2K11 will be a big hit with gamers and basketball fans alike.

"I'm looking forward to getting back out onto the court, virtually. Let's hope they get my dunk from the foul line right."

The press release doesn't offer many more details about the game; all we're told is that there'll be better graphics, gameplay, signature styles and game modes than in previous iterations.

Not quite the "profoundly evolve the genre" boasts we heard from EA about NBA Elite 11 yesterday.

NBA 2K11 will be released for PS3 and Xbox 360 on 5th October in the US.
