Capcom has announced a 22nd January European release date for Resident Evil Archives: Resident Evil Zero on Wii. The same game goes on sale from 1st December in the US.

Zero originally appeared on GameCube in 2003, and is a prequel to the first Resident Evil. Not as essential as Resident Evil 4, but creepy nonetheless.

The Wii adaptation adopts motion-sensing controls. Any other enhancements have not been mentioned.

They should have remade RE:2 before zero. RE:2 stands out as being the best game in the series....after 4 of course

@tachometer,

Yes RE2 is awesome, but even for the wii, re-releasing a PSOne game without updated graphics would be ridiculous.
Besides, isn't Darkside Chronicles 2 essentially a remake of RE2 and CV?

I think technically it would be classed as a 'reimagining' ;)

The fact that you can play the gamecube version of this game on your Wii makes this feel slightly redundant, if not entirely pointless.

They really should have released them all in one set...or sold them at £10 each.

once more the GC re releases show how nintendo are running out of ideas and games for the WII. they have recently slashed their profit forecast for the wii and there was a program on B.B.C. radio yesterday about how the WII bubble is finally bursting. lets hope so, as most wii owners would be better served with a last gen ps2 or gamecube. resi is a great game but so was fzero on the snesl, but things move on, except for the WII which is a machine from 10 years ago

"For fuck's sake please no more... How about making a new game? "

So Darkside Chronicles (out end of November in Europe), RE5's Alternative Edition (out March) and RE:PSP wouldn't be new games then? Understandable you'd make that comment if you'd missed they were making A new game, but THREE?

"once more the GC re releases show how nintendo are running out of ideas and games for the WII. "

So CAPCOM's idea to repackage a game from a franchise that has exploded since this game's original release is a sign that NINTENDO is running out of ideas? Stunning logic right there!

I'm not as bothered ny these games being released as everyone else seems to be. My Gamecube copies are getting old, worn and scratched a bit now, wouldn't hurt to have these newer copies on the shelf...hell i wouldn't even mind if they released 2, 3 and CVX as well just for completion purposes.

@Donnie: Firstly, the re-releases are Capcoms call and have nothing to do with Nintendos ability to create new games at all. They are simply not linked.

Secondly, the slashed profit forecast is still over 1.5billion pounds. Partially this is to do with currency fluctuation and partially to do with falling Wii sales. Of course Wii sales have tailed off. It's been the most successful console of all time, but it was going to hit saturation point at some stage. This is economics, hardly a massive failing.

Thirdly, as someone with a Gamecube and a PS2, I still have plenty of need for my wii. It's got different games on it, see? Ones that are lots of fun to play.

Finally, can you explain why you want the Wii to fail, please? Even ignoring that it converts people to playing games, it's clearly not stopping games being released on the PS3 and XBox 360. Why does everyone have to want to play with your toys?

I think its pretty stupid to say the Wii bubble is bursting when its still a much bigger bubble than the Xbox or Ps3... I'm not the Wii's biggest fan with its games or hardware, but come on Donnie, dont be a muppet. Its still selling bucket loads, and in the USA outsold both the PS3 and Xbox this week!.

I'm still not convinced of the 3rd party viability of the Wii, but it would be sensible to release updated GC games imho from a publishers point of view.. if thats what this is.

Recycle, rinse, repeat.
Could only imagine the stink if most of the PS3 and 360 releases were PS2 and Xbox remakes. . .
