Electronic Arts has announced more than 1 million copies of Spore have been sold since the game launched on September 7th.
What's more, over 25 million player-created creatures, vehicles and buildings to the Sporepedia.
"Spore is a hit," said EA Games president Frank Gibeau, rather unnecessarily. "Will Wright's latest delivers an incredibly diverse game that appeals to casual gamers and the core alike."
But Star Wars fans, not so much - The Force Unleashed has already reached the 1.5 million sales mark in just five days. Perhaps Will Wright should put more Darth Vader in his games.

Well, we knew Spore would sell, but it's not going to get the love that The Sims brought out in people. Weird creatures just aren't as lovable as people.

That wasnt a game, it was a high-res tamagotchi! ;) I merely jest. I did enjoy it though but not enough to get B&W 2

Only a million? I'd say that's low for Spore target standards. Crysis had more and that was a spec beast. :D

I wonder how many people felt okay about downloading it under the slogan "DRM is rubbish". I get the feeling it's probably more than 1 million by now. I can't image all those people would have bought a copy, but I understand some say they did buy an original AND got the pirate version to avoid the DRM.
The 2000 negative reviews on Amerzon can't have helped sales either, especially to the casual player who would be scared their home office work PC would be ruined by it. |

Are you sure about that? Clear Sky hardly touched the charts.. Spore was/still is near the top, I cannot see how Clear Sky sold that many... so I would be surprised by that, but am happy to be corrected as my comment is just an assumption on my part.

You can't really say "Star Wars is expected to sell better because it's on more platforms" given the fact that there are still a billion more PC's in the wild than there are consoles. Install base of all of them is the important figure to note.
I'd have to think 1m after this much time is a disappointment for a game that was so heavily hyped and for so long. EA effed it up, which isn't much of a surprise. They're the US version of Sony: take a good thing and screw it up as best you can. |

i nver bought it i dont like the bastards watching me with the mind control transmiter drm thingy... "tucks tinfoil hat securly over ears"
played a copy to see if i needed a real copy, i didnt! played for about 6 hours in total and not impressed, thank god i never installed that dicey DRM thing on my pc for that - id have had to do a clean wipe to feel safe again... im of i think they have a triangulation on me..
