Killzone PS3 mail 'a hoax'

Says Killzone PS3 developer.

Killzone developer Guerilla Games has contacted Eurogamer to denouce an email posted on the GameSpot forums, supposedly from the studio's development director, as a hoax.

The poster claimed he had emailed Guerilla with an enquiry about the Killzone PS3 demo shown at E3, rumoured to be sped up CGI rather than real time footage.

Guerilla's "reply" confirmed the rumour, adding that the game was "looking just as impressive as the demo."

But according to Guerilla's Alastair Burns, the email is "unfortunately a hoax. No such communication originated from our offices.

"To date we have made no official statements regarding our current crop of games, nor our intentions," he went on.

"We have no plans to do so in the near future either."

I'm starting to think that it might look close to the E3 demo... After all, the Gears Of War demo looked pretty good on the 360, and that was realtime.

You might want to do a little more background checking. It's not very likely that a studio would reveal any information to some random person that e-mails them.

Sadly.. it will still be a shite game...

After showing that fake trailer, they now have to spend all of their time trying to make it look good. Gameplay? Oh well...

I'm going to reserve judgement until I see the finished product.... neadless to say I will LMFAO if it does indeed look as good as it did at E3.
  • Blerk #13 7 years ago

Yup, it might look nice but at the end of the day it'll still be Killzone. :-)

    Dear Guerilla Games.
I am 8 years old. Some of my little friends say Killzone PS3 will be really shit. Papa says, "If you see it at E3, it's so." Please tell me the truth, will Killzone PS3 look that good?
    Virginia O'Hanlon

Virginia, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a sceptical age. They do not believe except what they see in forums. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men's or children's, are little. In this great universe of ours, man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

Yes, Virginia, Killzone PS3 will run at 30 fps and look that good.

  • motslaps #16 7 years ago

I remember the original Killzone being hyped as Halo for PS2... while I never played it I have read it wasnt quite that...

If they do pull this off, I'll be impressed

    >"That's according to a poster on the GameSpot forums, who wrote to Guerrilla to find out if rumours that the demo was CGI footage were true."

I got a letter from rare stating that pdz will look even better than the cgi killzone video.

are you guys gonna report this "news" too?
  • zErOb_cOOl #18 7 years ago

    "30fps??? I thought the PS3 was powerful :("

Their whole point is that they didn't have a PS3 at the time of E3 to demo it on, so had to put together CGI from the frames of the game.
  • davyuk #19 7 years ago

Wasn't this confirmed as fake? Keep up EG.

    " 30fps??? I thought the PS3 was powerful :("

But its a pay off between how much you shift about the screen and how fast you make it move. Its always been that way. The most powerful computer on earth (whatever that means) can still be stretched beyond its capabilities.

They could do PS1 style graphics at about 800 FPS I guess, maybe that would shift more units.

I fully expect Killzone 2 to look great, whether it looks like the E3 video or not. Killzone 1 was quite a feat on the PS2. Whether the gameplay will be any good is something else of course, though I'm not particularly holding KZ1 against them as lessons can be learned.

"To date we have made no official statements regarding our current crop of games, nor our intentions," he went on.

In other words, no confirmation whether or not the demo was actually of a game. Hello, smoke and mirrors.

"Killzone developer Guerilla Games has contacted Eurogamer to denouce an email posted on the GameSpot forums"

    Erm...?

I'm really not trying to be pedantic, but that just doesn't quite seem to read right. I'm guessing it was just a general email sent to all the major games sites to say that the information in the forum post was false. Unless he's got confused about which site the GameSpot forum belongs to? (in which case you may want to point out to him that the clue is in the name).
  • eurisko2k #32 7 years ago

may I ask who cares.... about a follow up to a over hyped crap game anyway

    Us mighty killzone fans do.

I still remember the "fun" I had with the first game.

after reading so many post about Killzone 2 for the PS 3. It safe for me to say that the xbox boyies are just a little, OK may a lot, worry that the Killzone 2 really does have that kind of graphics.

but it's understandable that xbox boyies are worry, afterall, Xbox 360 is an inferior system. That's what inferior complex do, it make you bitch and complaint about things.

AT E3 2005, Sony won the best Console, best demo goes to Killzone 2.

Well, we only have to wait until friday to see Metal Gear Solid 3 for the PS 3 and of course more of Killzone 2. And we all know what a geniuse Kojima is don't we? If you thought the last generation of Metal Gear solid was good, you won't be able to imagine how good it will be for the PS 3.

Deny in your world, but Play in PS world.

"I'm going to reserve judgement until I see the finished product.... neadless to say I will LMFAO if it does indeed look as good as it did at E3." - Its not going to, atleast not the entire game. Technically it is very well possible. But to have such a high lvl of detail either restricts you to using very small sets (places in lvls or lvls) or using a huge ammount of manpower for a long time. Neither is desirable.
  • Dizzy #37 7 years ago

    >after reading so many post about Killzone 2 for the PS 3. It safe for me to say that the xbox boyies are just a little, OK may a lot, worry that the Killzone 2 really does have that kind of graphics.

    :) Nice try.

A lot of people are making fun of anything Killzone now because EG claimed it was the "real next gen" when it abviously was just a rendered flick with effects that even renderfarms would have a hard time doing in realtime. It really has nothing to do with 360. There is no "if it looks that good"... it just isn't possible :) So there is no use in defending Killzone 3... a lot of people now like to take the piss out of every Killzone 3 news (and rightly so... a bit of sarcasm never hurt anybody).

  • Darren #39 7 years ago

So if that email was a hoax then obviously Guerilla haven't got the game up and running at 30fps at the same quality as the E3 demo then, or at least they haven't confirmed it? It would be a very pleasant surprise indeed if the final game does measure up visually to the demo's promise but really it's the gameplay I'm concerned about. Killzone on the PS2 wasn't really all that good in the first place, was it?

In some way I truly feel sorry for Kojima-san. What if his creative geniuse behind Metal Gear Solid 3 is 10 Times Better than what Killzone 2 did at the E3 2005?

    What will the Xboyies say?

Will they starting talking shit about Kojima and Metal Gear Series?

But WE all know that Kojima couldn't care less of what other say about this work. Afterall, Halo is an inferior ripoff of the Metal Gear series.
