Killzone 2 out on 27th Feb - retailers

Sony yet to confirm.

Killzone 2 will almost certainly be released in the UK on 27th February, with certain European territories getting their hands on it two days earlier on the 25th.

Sony UK told Eurogamer this afternoon that it could not confirm the release date, but we've since spoken to UK retailers who have been advised to expect a 27th February launch for the PS3 exclusive.

Earlier this week Sony also said that European gamers can probably expect a playable demo prior to release.

As far as we're concerned it can't come soon enough, having quickened our pulse already this month in yesterday's Killzone 2 hands-on preview. Reviews are expected to hit within the weeks beforehand, including ours.

I was hoping for a Collector's Edition to be announced by SCEE.

Does this generation officially start now then? It'll be above average generic pish and won't change the fortune of the PS3 one jot. Wait and see...

    >Sony might have decided to 're organise talent' Microsoft style.

I guess you missed the memo.

Just check above the bridge... there is probably a mailbox somewhere.

"could anythin be more generic and average than gears of war though?"

Totally agree. Gears of War was never going to sell consoles in large numbers. What it does do is sell to a substantial percentage of people who already own the console and has the ability to generate a huge amount of playing time and downloaded content on Xbox Live. All good for the health of a console but never defining it.

Which is the same reason that Killzone 2 isn't a game-changer for Sony.

Since when has 5/5 being "above average"?

You'll forgive me I'm sure for not taking the OFFICIAL Playstation Magazine's opinion as being entirely objective.

If Gears of War was much more generic or average than say the likes of ...Resistance 2... then I have been playing the games with my mind set on the wrong way round!

I didnt come in to piss on PS3, but the comment just invited me to say that!

However I and my PS3 owning brother is dead set looking forward to Killzone 2, although the first was not representing the cream of FPS at the time, it still certainly made a great attempt despite the limitation of the PS2 hardware. Feb 27th cant come soon enough!

That logic doesn't quite make sense.

OPM may score crud games more highly, but just because a game is scored highly doesn't means its crud.

Sure by all means take notice of where your information comes from, but just because a source has a bias doesn't necessarily invalidate all their points.

Yeah, Gears is in no way generic. I can't even think of that many epic-scale third person shooters with cover systems, gorgeous graphics/atmosphere, etc. In fact, I'm hard pressed to think of anything like it! Ummm... Rainbow Six? Oh no, that was first person, similar cover system though.

Quite looking forward to KZ2 though, never played the first one as I heard that was pretty generic. After the recent preview though my interest has definitely peaked. The tactical element interests me in particular. Saying that though, taking the preview with a pinch of salt and will wait to read some reviews before I make my final decision. Really do need some new games for my PS3 though, not bought anything since LBP...

A not so good preview on Gamesradar might change the minds of some of you about this game, it's got good graphics, thats it.
  • wayneh #14 3 years ago

I'm actually looking forward to KZ2. If it lives up to the hype it sounds awesome. And Gears is definately a generic FPS. Sold GoW2 as soon as I had completed it, very meh IMO.

I'm sorry are you completely mental? Stop talking out your arse.

I can see that an article like this would attract the 14 yr old PS3 fanboy crowd but the amount of utter toss being bandied about on this page is unbelievable. Calling Gears of War a generic shooter and getting excited by a sequel to a game that was, in polite terms, a bucket of wet shit.

My prediction: Apologie trying to convince the world that it's the second coming of Christ, farticus and onyx endlessly saying it's not worth buying a $700 console for, Richie Leadbetter working out that Halo had 14.778% more brown pixels per second, EG giving it an 8, and a 2000 post w*nkfest arguing about it whilst the rest of us go play games.

If this release date is true im having great fun playing my newly bought SFIV copy at the time KZ2 hit the shelves.

There's a good 1hr video of the 1UP guys playing it here:

(before they're all sacked off). They like it but it's buggy at the moment.
