First MAG DLC free next Thursday

"It's just the beginning," says Zipper.

The first lot of MAG downloadable content will be released next Thursday, 25th March.

It's called the Trooper Gear Pack and it will be free.

Top of the additions-list is the disorienting Flashbang grenade, followed by special edition versions of both side's light machinegun, which looks and behaves differently. There are also two new new costumes, sorry, uniforms to wear: Trooper Dark and Trooper Light.

"The best part of the Trooper Gear Pack? It's just the beginning of our ongoing commitment to MAG. In the coming months, you can expect to see plenty of other add-ons and goodies that we can't quite tell you about yet (but know you'll enjoy)," Zipper's community chief Jeremy Dunham wrote on the US PlayStation blog.

A double experience weekend will run from 25th to 28th March to help promote the new toys.

There are some renders of the new content on the PS Blog.

Love MAG but I haven't played it since Bad Company 2 was released, though I am missing those 256 player games

Not too keen on the flashbang grenades. Doesn't really go with what they've accomplished in MAG. Still though, free DLC is always good. ZI have been great in supporting this game. Still having fun on this most nights of the week. All credit to ZI.

I do enjoy MAG and will get these downloaded as soon as they come out but finding the time to dedicate to get me XP up is a pain. Hopefully I may be able to get to play during the double XP session.

@M_of_the_sys "Not too keen on the flashbang grenades." you will loath them by the time im finished blinding you, stabbing you and then teabagging you :D...flashbangs do go with MAG they should of been in it in the first place...they will make my job blowing shit up and running away from groups of pissed off repair men far easier lol

    @seanthejackal

Haha! I think there's enough grenade spamming. I'm expecting a lot of Flashbang spamming. Squad defending a bunker - lots of flashbang spam - Opposing squad takes out blinded men and blows bunker. It's good in the way that it'll mean another shift in tactics like defending from a wider perimeter. I guess this is the genius of the game. It constantly evolves and no two games are ever the same.

@M_of_the_sys your 100% correct about the bunkers :D, it will be interesting to see all the different tactics people use. next dlc GAS MASKS!!! lol why not they are in the trailers ya know.

anyone else think this was going to be a code with a printed magazine to get game extras (as i'd never heard of mag the game)

MAG is great fun and free DLC is great news. Haven't decided who to move onto next after reaching level 60 in Raven.

    Decisions, decisions...

Hmmmm, rebalance the LMG because it was blatantly overpowered and then add in another afterwards, this could go either way.

Flashbang spam could be a problem I admit, grenade spam and poison gas spam are already bad enough. Could this be a replacement for the near useless smoke grenade? The smoke grenade doesn't do a good enough job of hiding people in my opinion, and when LMGs kill so effectively you could just spray the entire cloud and get your kill anyway.

Will see on Thursday whether or not this update will be for better or worse.
