Euro Killzone 2 demo on Thursday News

PlayStation 3 News by Tom Bramwell

2 February, 2009

Sony has said that the European Killzone 2 playable demo will be made available through the PlayStation Store this Thursday, 5th February.

The demo consists of the first two sections of Corinth River, which is the first proper level of the game, so you'll finally get to run through the beach landing and warehouse sequence that's formed the basis of so many previews.

There's also a tutorial - the same one that features in the main game.

And of course if you haven't checked it out yet, the cinematic intro video is available on Eurogamer TV.

Check out our Killzone 2 review if you haven't already. The full game's due out on 27th February.

I'm not getting my hopes up again after the first Killzone, but I'll certainly download it and see for myself.

Can PSN get any slower? It took aver an hour to download flOw (120+mb) yesterday and I only got errors trying to load user maps on LBP.

Please please sony charge us some money and give a decent service.

Excellent. That's something to look forward to.

I got really annoyed with the Killzone 1: not enough checkpoints, weird difficulty spikes, script ripped wholesale from 'Aliens' (even more than Halo 3!). The previews and early reviews suggest that everything might have pulled together for the sequel. It's still a definite play-before-purchase game, but I'm a lot more interested now than I was a few months ago.

Awesome! Will definitely download this - although I may give it a day or two, until the immediate strain is taken off the servers!

Yeah wireless. Laptop works OK in the same room (less than 10 metres and a brick wall away from my router)

Might have to fire the browser up and try speedtest.net

@link'sdad : Yes try that. My friend was having problems (disconnects and slow speed) using wireless, but it was solved using wired LAN instead.

I was thinking the same thing about my 360 the other day... only the chances of it breaking under that strain are far greater.

I'm usually getting slow PSN download speeds as well. I haven't tried a wired connection, but my wireless signal very rarely drops below 90%, so it seems odd that it should have any negative impact on download speeds. Particularly as my PC is also connected wirelessly to the same router and speed tests on the new cable connection I've had for a week now says I'm consistently hitting 21-22 Mbit on my 25 Mbit line - which should translate to maximum download speeds of around 2.7 MB/s if the server on the other end can keep up and there aren't any "hiccups" along the way.
My experience so far on the PC has been that I can get anywhere from 150 kB/s to 2+ MB/s on file downloads and video streaming from assorted web sites, but though I haven't actually tried timing it I would definitely estimate my PSN downloads are rarely over 100-200 kB/s.

Since I've made some changes to the physical location of modem and router after I switched ISP I think I'm actually just gonna try a wired connection. I think I might be able to avoid too much extra cable clutter now.

Edit: Okay, the test results are in - and though don't have a clue why, PS3 wireless sucks.
I downloaded the 67 MB God of War 3 trailer from the EU store twice, first wireless then wired.
Wireless: 5 minutes 12 seconds - just over 200 kB/s if my calculations are correct.
Wired: 24 seconds - maxing out my connection at around 2.7 MB/s.

This really is rather strange, considering my PC - as mentioned - doesn't have any problems hitting max speeds on a wireless connection. And since the wireless signal on my PS3 is stable above 90% that really shouldn't be a factor either (and I generally haven't experienced unusual lag in games).
Well, in any case it's hard to argue with the vastly different numbers - so I guess I should just be happy that I can now keep my PS3 wired with the cable hidden behind the couch.

If you have trouble with wireless on PS3 try turning off media sharing. It hogs bandwidth.

Btw, if anyone is interested, no PS3 owner should be disappointed by RE5. It looks as good as the 360 version and 98% as smooth. AA isn't much different at all, but the Quincrux thing the PS3 uses messes with the LOD of the texturing. At distance less detailed than the 360, but up close at touch more detailed. Oh and it does drop the odd frame, not when action is happening, but random pans of scenery :S

thank you sony!! (that is if it turns up unlike supersonic etc battle cars - slight gripe but the demo is so much fun via the us store) i really thought i was going to have to try and drag it off the us store before release but this, for me personally, has made up for the lack of sf ii hd!

may i finally say that i'm happy for you multiplat or 360 fanboys for whom 360 is the be all and end all. for us many PS3 only owners, contray to your beliefs, Sony's system is very gratifying as a gamer and if not for an attempt at inadequacy at our existence we'd generally be fulfilling meaningful existences as gamers.

:)

I really wish some of you guys would deal with that.

well come thursday well see if this game can single handedly save the ps3 from sitting proudly alongside the saturn and the dreamcast on that pile called
"consoles we should never have spent money on"

until then ill be on my 360, playing the already massive backlog of GOOD games ive got.

ps3 fanboys take the bait....
